I’ve run figurative workshops, courses and regular untutored groups for many years alongside my own practice. Although classically trained, I believe one of the most important parts of art education is working with people on an individual level — helping them build confidence and find their own voice. Everything I teach is centred on the life model, whether it be drawing, sculpting or anatomy. My classical background is there when it’s useful, and I can take the training to a more traditional or anatomy‑focused level in dedicated courses, but in clubs the emphasis is always on personal development and supporting each person’s own way of approaching the figure.
In all my classes and clubs, I try to create an environment that feels steady, supportive and open. Figurative work can be both demanding and vulnerable, so I place a lot of importance on atmosphere: a space where people feel comfortable enough to take risks, try new approaches, slow down, or work quietly with concentration. The life model sits at the centre of this, offering structure while still allowing for individual direction. The overall intention is to foster a respectful, focused setting where people can grow at their own pace and in their own way.
An untutored block of four clay‑sculpting sessions in my studio, working from Faye, an experienced life model. You’ll build a small clay figure sketch from observation and can store your piece in the studio or take it home between sessions.
At the end, you can prepare your sculpture for firing with my help; firing can be arranged for a small additional charge. Please bring your own tools, clay board, wrap cloths, sprays, and plastic bags to keep the work damp.
A steady, focused way to work directly from the model in a sculpture studio.
Bring your own clay, board, wraps and tools.
